Brig. Gen (Ret). Docent Zija BAHJA, Msc

Docent Zija Bahja, is currently a full time Reader at the Defence Academy of Albania, Department of Strategy and Defence Studies. He is a graduated cum laude from the Albanian Defence Academy and the United States Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, U.S.A. He also has a Master of Science degree (Distinction) in Global Security from Crandfield University, Royal Military College of Science, Faculty of Defence and Technology Management in UK.

His 30+ years in the defence include over 16 assignments (tours of duty) such as, Chief of Training in Special Forces Brigade, Infantry and Armoured Brigade Commander, Deputy Director for Education & Training (J7) in the Albanian Joint General Staff, Deputy Director of Operations (J3) in the Albanian Joint General Staff, MoD, Commandant of Non-Commissioned Officers Academy, Commanding General of Albanian Training and Doctrine Command, Defence Military Attaché in Vienna, Austria, Albanian Senior Military Advisor and Representative at OSCE, UN and IAEA, Vienna, Austria, Commander of the Albanian Support Command.

Docent Zija Bahja has an extensive research and published work in the fields of Civil-Military Relations, Security Sector Reform, Expert Formation, Developing the National Security Strategy and Military Doctrine, etc. His international research work is published from Geneva Center for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces, Switzerland, Austrian National Defence Academy, Centre for European Security Studies, The Netherlands, NATO School Oberammergau, Crandfield University, UK.

Upon his retirement from the military, General Zija Bahja is involved in graduate, postgraduate lecturing and executive training. He is the course leader for Terrorism and Collective Security Threats, European Security and Defence Policy and Nato and European Union Integration postgraduate level courses at the University of New York in Tirana. He is also the academic leader for the Advanced Course in Defence and Security Studies and International Relations and World Politics at the Defence Academy in Albania. Both courses are designated to nurture and train the high-level public officials and top ranking military officers.
